I think spirals are most knitters’ favourite shape. Knitters (and crocheters) love designs that swirl round
We deliberately set out to create a ‘different’ spiral. We wanted it to get wider
as it moved outwards and the calculations for this were incredibly difficult. It
is possible to knit a one-
We tried many different ways to work out exactly where the increases should be so that the paths would get gradually wider. Each way gave us different answers. We eventually decided that none would be completely accurate but the flexibility of the knitting would average out the calculations and allow it to spiral as we wanted it to.
To keep it as even as possible the increases were placed in the centre of the paths. The afghan can be made to any size, using any yarn, by just repeating the method established at the start. The maximum number of stitches on the needles is about 25. The spiral tapers at the end so the finished shape is almost a circle.
