By 2010 we had retired from teaching and become obsessed with ‘illusion’ knitting
(sometimes known as shadow knitting) -
Illusion knitting is a technique whereby an image is revealed when you look at a
piece of knitting from the side but when you stand directly in front of it you only
see narrow stripes. It has been around for a long time and mostly used very simple

Our illusion designs quickly fell into two camps. Steve is very artistic. He can draw and paint and all that kind of thing. I am not in the least bit artistic. I seized on geometric designs; he went for famous works of art and other recognisable images.
My first thoughts turned to Curve of Pursuit. In the original version some people
perceive swirls, others see squares inside squares. The pattern includes two versions.
One makes the squares most obvious, when looking from an angle, the other shows the
swirls first. It was spectacularly successful. Neither version can be made by simply
adjusting the original pattern. The methods are not the same. it needed a complete

It has been interesting to see the different versions that have been created with different colours and different placements of those colours.
Because it has more colours, and two colours are used in each wedge, this is slightly more difficult to make than the original Curve of Pursuit. It is not recommended for a complete beginner.
