Check Mate and Granny’s Draughtboard are almost interchangeable, in the same way
that a conventional board can be used for either game. It is only the playing pieces
that have to change. We decided to make one in crochet, the other in machine knitting.
Even though the techniques are very basic the completed games are very popular, because
of their size, the eye-
Granny’s Draughtboard is basically 64 granny squares in two colours. The draughts pieces are double thickness crochet circles, one set in each of the colours used for the board. They have their own storage bag which makes a cushion when te pieces are not being used.
