We liked the idea of Square Deal Redux showing the squares nested inside each other and decided to create an equally interesting version for knitters.
‘Mitred squares’ had become very popular and lent themselves nicely to working the right number of ridges to give all the different sizes of squares. As with the crochet version, each square is exactly the same as the next smallest square but with extra ridges added on to give the new size. However, these squares had to be worked from the outside inwards and were joined as they went along. The stitches for each square are picked up from those that went before so accuracy is essential.
The choice of colours gave an unusual modern art effect though I have seen some much more colourful versions.
